Ottoneu on Slack: Discussing League GP & IP Minimums

Whether you’re new to Ottoneu or a crusty veteran you should join the Ottoneu community on Slack. Wisdom from the crowds can be valuable, and from time to time we’ll repost some of our more popular Slack community discussions here on Ottoneu Trade Rumors to carry on the conversation and reference them in the future.

Just before the final month of the 2015 season, the Slack community discussed the merits of creating a games played and innings pitched minimum for every team.  Would such a minimum increase overall activity in leagues, or just become a burden for those teams trying to rebuild? This discussion is related to the more recent debate on Rule 1a.  You can check out the full transcript of the Slack discussion on GP and IP minimums here.

2016 Steamer Position Review – RP

Steamer projections are now available and we’ve converted them to Ottoneu scoring (FGPTS) for 2016.  It’s now to time dig into these projections position by position to see if we can find anything interesting for the upcoming season.  Each Steamer projection sheet includes full projected stats for 2016 along with post-arbitration Ottoneu Average $ Values (FGPTS) and custom 2016 $ values by Ottoneu mastermind Justin Vibber.

The $ values are based on early versions of Steamer for 2016 and represent a snapshot in time. Use them to inform your valuation of various players but check back often for updates and new projection systems.

Today we’ll review RP.  You can find the full RP projection list here.

A Very Early Projection for the 2016 Ottoneu Champions League 🏆

The Ottoneu Champions League was established in 2015 and brings together some of the best FGPTS champions among all Ottoneu leagues.  You can see a full breakdown of the standings during last year’s inaugural season here (as well as our recent podcast review), but the purpose of this post is to take a very quick, very premature look at which teams might be best positioned to win the league in 2016.  And since it’s not even December yet, we’ll do this using just a handful of useful tools available to us today:

Based on this limited information we’ll take a very rough approach at identifying some of the best Champions League teams heading into 2016, and we’ll do it simply by estimating how much surplus value each roster is currently carrying.   Continue reading

Bull Durham: Trout Pre-season Saga

"The Trout Trade"

Mike Trout traded just before the 2014 season begins in Bull Durham (52)

On Monday, this trade was brought to my attention via the @OttoneuTrades account I started on twitter.  Good work guys! These are the type of things that I love to analyze.  Hopefully it can be mildly helpful to all, and at the very least be a basis for conversation.

The Background:

Welcome! I’ve toyed with the idea of setting up an Ottoneu FGpts centric blog for a while now but felt it was finally time to put pen to paper and move forward with some of the ideas I have.  As many who play Ottoneu, I am a baseball and fantasy sports junkie.  I can’t get enough!

However, as I became more entrenched in the Ottoneu FGpts format – adding leagues each year, while dropping my old Yahoo leagues – I realized that there was not nearly enough analysis of the platform, leagues, trades, and everything else that makes Ottoneu great.  This is not to take anything away from the excellent work done at FanGraphs in analyzing different topics related to Ottoneu – Chad Young and Brad Johnson specifically have done great work in that regard – but I consistently find myself wanting to discuss more than is written about FGpts Ottoneu leagues.  I hope that Ottoneu Trade Rumors will give myself (and others) a platform to do just that.

Thanks for the support so far! I’m excited to see where this leads. It may turn out to be nothing, but at the very least, it is a platform to discuss Ottoneu, and that is something to be excited about!
